If you’re emotionally invested, you’re not in a FWB relationship. You’re in a regular relationship with someone who doesn’t care about you. And here’s the thing, they don’t have to. If you consent to a FWB setup, you are agreeing to the premise that there is no future for the two of you, there is just the present & nothing will come from it. I can’t speak on him ruining anything bc a FWB requires some thick skin & very little emotion besides having sexual needs satisfied (to which, you consented).
You are dealing with unrequited love & it’s causing you trouble. You can’t get over him bc you saw yourself as “building up” to a relationship, not as breathing fleshlights/dildos. But you can’t build from him a man that he never wanted to become. This is a “you” problem right now. You need to stop pretending that he was ever someone who could have loved you. He couldn’t. And moreover, he didn’t want to. In your head, you’re still magnifing the few good parts of him instead of focusing on the many flaws of the reality. He might have had elements of a person you wish to find in the future but he is not the epitome of the love you deserve to receive so don’t keep yourself trapped in the hole you created out of his “perfection”. The sooner you realize how human he was, how flawed, how little he actually cared about you, the sooner you will come to being over this situation. Try making a list of the things he did during the relationship that made you feel good vs bad. Now think, if someone did this to your best friend, what would you tell her about him? Love is difficult honey & unrequited love is its own beast so it’s ok to spend ur time processing what happened & how u got here & it’s ok if it takes you some time to get over it :)
